Mother Earth Tobacco Grand Opening
Long Plain First Nation
October 18, 2015 - The Mother Earth Tobacco company was officially launched on October 18th, 2005. The inaugural ceremony and gathering took place at the Keeshkeemaquah Gaming and Conference Centre in the Long Plain First Nation in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba.
Masters of Ceremony Corey "The Coyote" Whitford greeted the gathered assembly and members of the press, then asked Elder Marjorie Gazan for the opening prayer.
Supporters of the Mother Earth initiative were acknowledged, including the Women’s Enterprise Centre, Mother of Red Nations, Original Tobacco Company, Long Plain First Nation, Bob Wasicuna, Sharon Redsky and Janice Spence.
The gathering was then given over to several speakers including SCO Grand Chief Chris Henderson, Dollphine Oguna from the Women's Enterprise Centre and Chief Dennis Meeches of the Long Plain First Nation.
Afterward, Mother Earth representative and co-founder Tannis Bullard talked about the environmental benefits of organic farming and together with co-founder Lise Legal, presented a slide show about their product and methodology.
